Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)
In most states, when you rent a car from Thrifty, you are responsible for any and all loss or damage to the car resulting from any cause, including but not limited to, collision, rollover, theft, vandalism, seizure, fire, flood, hail or other acts of nature or God, regardless of fault.
When you purchase our Loss Damage Waiver (LDW), which is not insurance, you are relieved of financial responsibility if your rental car is damaged or stolen.
LDW Benefits:
- Covers all vehicle damage to Thrifty rental car, regardless of fault*, provided the renter is not in violation of the Rental Agreement
- No need to file a claim with your personal auto insurance
- No deductible for you to pay to Thrifty
*In IL, your financial responsibility for loss or damage to the rental car with an MSRP of $50,000 or less due to causes other than theft will not exceed $17, 500 through May 31, 2017 and will increase by $500 per year every June 1 thereafter. Your responsibility for theft will not exceed $2,000 unless it is established that you failed to exercise ordinary care while in possession of the rental vehicle or committed or aided in the commission of the theft. For a rental car with an MSRP of more than $50,000, your financial responsibility for loss or damage due to causes other than theft, and for theft, will not exceed $40,000 through September 30, 2016, which limit will increase by $2,500 per year starting October 1, 2016. In CA, you are responsible for loss or damage resulting from collision, regardless of cause, and under certain circumstances, for vandalism and theft. In CA, NY, IA and NV, you are only responsible for theft if it results from your fault.
At the time of rental, Thrifty offers for purchase at the option of the renter, Loss Damage Waiver ("LDW"), Personal Accident Insurance ("PAI"), Personal Effects Insurance ("PEI") and Liability Insurance Supplement ("LIS"). The cost, coverage, provider and availability vary by location.
The optional products offered by the rental company may duplicate coverage provided by your personal automobile insurance or insurance you may have through another source. Purchase of optional products is not required to rent the vehicle. Separate brochures available at the rental location summarize the optional products.
